Buy a badge and help us support the families of our veterans this Legacy Week 30 August – 5 September.

The Legacy Week appeal has been running since the 1940’s and is a time for all Australians to show their support for the widows and children whose loved ones have served our country.

The Legacy badge is a special emblem of support for our veterans’ families, symbolising our nation’s greatest values of mateship, compassion and fairness.

Legacy badges may be little but the funds they raise make a big impact in the lives of our veterans’ families.

Legacy Week is a time to give back to the families of those who have given so much.

Before reading about ways to support Legacy, please read Kathryn’s story to find out more about how Legacy help to look after our veterans’ families.

Kathryn and Imogen

“I was in a fog of shock and grief. It was then that I entered Legacy House… their incredible support allowed me to grieve and be a parent.”

“I am Kathryn. I am a mother, an Army Officer, a war veteran and in 2017, I became a war widow.

Three years ago, my husband of 10 years became increasingly violent. Like myself, he had a long career as an Army Officer and had served three tours overseas. He had experienced a terrible and largely secret battle with chronic pain, depression, and PTSD.

In the days before he took his life, I managed to escape with our then two-year-old daughter Imogen.

Bereft, traumatised and battered, I entered Legacy House.

Legacy found me legal, financial, welfare and social support. They put me in touch with other widows and found activities for Imogen to join with other kids who had also lost their father.”

“They found me a beautiful Legacy family.”

Kathryn believes that she owes so much to Legacy for their unwavering support, in everything we do, we owe a debt of gratitude to generous friends like you.

If Kathryn’s story can show you the true value of your donations, please support us by making an online donation today.

With your help, we can continue to support families who come to us in their darkest moment and give hope to provide them with a new life.

Volunteer with Legacy

It would not be possible for Legacy to raise funds to support the widows, widowers and families across Australia without the help of our dedicated volunteers.

You can help make a difference by volunteering to sell badges during Legacy Week. Volunteering is a great way to build connections and give back to the families of those who have given so much!

In 1923 Legacy made a promise to help veterans’ families carry on with their lives after the loss or injury of their loved one. It was a simple promise that Legacy keeps today; providing the same stability, guidance and assistance that a partner would normally provide to his or her family.

Today, Legacy supports 52,000 partners and children of veterans who gave their lives or health serving our country.

Our work can mean a child gets an education and a fair go, a widow is not disadvantaged and alone and a family is not torn apart by the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress or other physiological injuries.

Since the Legacy promise was made by a soldier to his dying mate in the trenches of WW1 “To look after the missus and the kids” Legacy has supported Australian Defence Force families in times of great need.

We need your help to ensure the promise lives on for our veterans’ families.
